Day 05.Heritages Tour in Ghana

Ghana is the perfect place to embark on a heritage tour, rich in culture and heritage. The country's rich history dates back to more than 700 years ago when nations such as Dagbon, Asanteman, and some European nations had trade relations with Ghana.

The first known documented account of an African enslaved person was that of a 200-year-old man named "Ayuba Suleiman Diallo," or Job Ben Solomon, captured in present-day Senegal and sold into slavery in Maryland in 1731. He was brought back to London by evangelical abolitionists after the American Revolution, where he published his autobiography describing prison life at Fort Stoddert, among other locations. During warfare, Africans who were taken prisoner often suffered mutilation, branding, flogging, or enslavement.

The Atlantic Slave Trade in the Americas saw millions of men, women, and children from West Africa trafficked to North America, Central America, and South America.

The transatlantic slave trade forced Africans into a life of misery in a foreign land that robbed them of their customs, traditions, and heritage. As a result, Ghana has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the castles built by Portuguese settlers in Elmina and Sao Jorge da Mina on Ghana's coast and Kakum National Park in the Brong-Ahafo region.

Our heritage package includes visits to the slave castles, national parks, and other heritage sites as Tanoboase Sacred Grove and Shrine and Elmina Castle, which are kept in pristine condition by Ghana's National Commission for Culture.

Of particular interest is Elmina Castle which was built by the Portuguese, who constructed many forts along the coast of present-day Ghana to serve as trade centers and ports.

Gather up some worldly knowledge on Ghana's culture while enjoying the country's incomparable hospitality.
